Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director/CEO) is thrilled to announce that Heidi Blickenstaff (“Mickey”), Ted Louis Levy (“Mr. Magix”), Michael Park (“Prince Nicolai”) and Lance Roberts (“Rev. J.D. Montgomery”) have joined Sutton Foster (“Edythe Herbert”) and Gavin Creel (“Captain Billy Buck Chandler”) in a special one-night-only Benefit Musical Performance of My One and Only, the award-winning musical comedy by Peter Stone and Timothy S. Mayer with music and lyrics by George and Ira Gershwin.

The cast of My One and Only will also include Darius Barnes, Joe Beauregard, Ward Billeisen, Jessica Bishop, Preston Truman Boyd, Maria Briggs, James Brown III, C.K. Edwards, Shonica Gooden, Robert Hartwell, Eloise Kropp, Ross Lekites, Kevin Munhall, Noah Ricketts, Allison Semmes, Avery Smith, Dennis Stowe and Yuka Takara.

The Benefit Musical Performance will take place on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 7:30 PM at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

Gavin Creel was last seen on stage at Roundabout Theatre Company in the 2016 revival of She Loves Me. Sutton Foster has been a friend of Roundabout since her Tony Award-winning performance as “Reno Sweeney” in Anything Goes (2012), followed by her Tony-nominated performance as “Violet” in Violet (2014). Foster and Creel last appeared on Broadway together in the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie. Lance Roberts and Michael Park also return to Roundabout’s stage, in The Robber Brideroom and Little Me, respectively. Roundabout is also thrilled to welcome back Rob Ashford to direct and choreograph this one-night-only special event. Ashford choreographed Roundabout’s first musical at the American Airlines Theatre, The Boys From Syracuse in 2002.

From the airfield to the aquacade, this smash musical transports you across the carefree, jazz-charged world of 1927. A songbook of 16 of George and Ira’s classics—including “Funny Face,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It,” and “How Long Has This Been Goin’ On?”—launches the story of a heartsick aviator (Creel), a cross-channel swimmer (Foster), and the hilarious highs and lows of their unstoppable romance. He loves, and she loves, and they’ll cross land, sea and sky to find a way to be together. ’S wonderful, ’s marvelous—and ’s taking flight for one night only. My One and Only won three Tony Awards when it was originally presented in 1983 starring Tommy Tune and Twiggy.

Proceeds from My One and Only will benefit Roundabout’s Musical Theatre Fund which is dedicated to preserving this great American art form by bringing familiar and lesser-known works to a new generation of theatregoers, like this spring’s Kiss Me, Kate.

BIOS:

SUTTON FOSTER (Edythe Herbert) currently stars as Liza in the critically-acclaimed TV Land series, “Younger.” Created by “Sex in the City's” Darren Star and styled by the iconic Pat Field, the series centers around a 40-year-old suburban single mother, Liza, who re-invents herself as a 26-year-old in order to get a job at a publishing company. Also starring Hilary Duff, Nico Tortorella, Miriam Shor and Debi Mazar, the series returned for its fifth season in June 2018. Previously, Foster starred as Michelle Simms in Amy Sherman-Palladino’s ABC Family series, “Bunheads.” The series is about a former ballerina turned Las Vegas showgirl who gets married on a whim and winds up teaching alongside her new mother-in-law at her ballet school in a sleepy costal town. Sutton earned a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in the role. Sutton recently reunited with Amy Sherman-Palladino as she had a guest starring role in the highly-anticipated Netflix revival, “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life” which was released on November 25, 2016. Sutton is a two-time Tony winning actress, singer and dancer who recently starred in the title role of the New Group’s 50th anniversary revival of Sweet Charity, for which she earned Lucille Lortel, Drama Desk and Drama League nominations for her performance. Directed by Violet director Leigh Silverman, the show ran at the Pershing Square Signature Center in November 2016. Sutton previously starred in the title role of Jeanine Tesori and Brian Crawley’s Tony-nominated Broadway revival, Violet, earning Tony, Drama League, Drama Desk, Outer Critic Circle and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award nominations for her performance. Sutton performed the role of Violet in the acclaimed concert performance at City Center Encores! Off-Center in July 2013. Originating the role, Sutton established herself as one of the greatest talents in the industry and earned a Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, as well as the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, and the Fred and Adele Astaire Awards for her performance. In addition to her Tony-winning performances, Foster originated numerous notable roles, most recently, Princess Fiona in Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire’s Shrek The Musical at The Broadway Theatre. Starring opposite Brian d'Arcy James, she won her second Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical and was nominated for a Tony, Drama League, and Drama Desk Awards. Foster also originated the role of Inga, the yodeling lab assistant to Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, in Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan’s parody of the horror film genre, Young Frankenstein, at Foxwoods Theatre. Foster was first seen on television on “Star Search” at the young age 15, and has more recently appeared in HBO’s comedy series “Flight of the Conchords,” USA Network’s “Royal Pains,” “Law & Order: SUV” and “Elementary.” She has also made guest appearances on the well-known children series Disney’s “Johnny and the Sprites,” and PBS’s “Sesame Street.” In 2014, Sutton made her feature film debut in Phil Alden Robinson’s The Angriest Man in Brooklyn. Featuring an all-star cast including Mila Kunis, Peter Dinklage, Robin Williams, Melissa Leo and James Earl Jones, the film tells the story of a physician who accidentally tells an obnoxious patient that he has a brain aneurism and only ninety minutes to live. As the patient races around the city, trying to right his wrongs, the doctor attempts to find him as he tries to find what he must do in the final moments of his life. Sutton also appeared as Kerry in James Roday’s Halloween American comedy horror film Gravy. Sutton Foster currently splits her time between New York City and Los Angeles.

GAVIN CREEL (Captain Billy Buck Chandler) received a Tony Award for his performance as “Cornelius Hackl” in the acclaimed 2017 revival of Hello, Dolly! starring Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce. Gavin made his Broadway debut originating the role of “Jimmy Smith” in Thoroughly Modern Millie, for which he received his first Tony Award nomination. He has since created such memorable performances on Broadway as “Jean-Michel” in the 2004 revival of La Cage Aux Folles, “Claude” in the 2009 revival of Hair, which earned him a second Tony Award nomination, and “Stephen Kodaly" in the Roundabout Theater Company’s 2016 revival of She Loves Me, which was filmed live and is available on BroadwayHD. No stranger to London audiences, Gavin most notably originated the role of “Elder Price” in the West End production of The Book of Mormon, for which he received the 2014 Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical. He also starred as “Bert” in Disney’s Mary Poppins and the revival of Hair. Other stage credits include: The Book of Mormon (on Broadway and originating the First National Tour), and the world premieres of Stephen Sondheim’s Bounce at Goodman Theatre and The Kennedy Center, and Prometheus Bound at A.R.T. On television, Gavin co-starred alongside Julie Andrews in ABC’s Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime. He has released three original albums “Goodtimenation,” “Quiet” (which landed on “Billboard’s Top Heat Seekers”) and “Get Out,” and his single “Noise” raised money and awareness for marriage equality. Creel was a co-founder of Broadway Impact, the first and only grassroots organization to mobilize the nationwide theater community in support of marriage equality. A native of Findlay, Ohio, he is a proud graduate of University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance.

HEIDI BLICKENSTAFF (Mickey) recently starred in Freaky Friday on Disney Channel as Katherine Blake, a role she created for the stage with Disney Theatrical, written by Tom Kitt, and Brian Yorkey. Along with her friends and collaborators, Heidi was one of the creators and stars of Tony-nominated, Obie Award-winning [title of show]. Broadway: Something Rotten! TED LOUIS LEVY (Mr. Magix). Ted's professional training began in Chicago with Mrs. Shirley Hall Bass and Mr. Finis Henderson II, Master Tap Dancer and former manager of Sammy Davis Jr.. Mr. Henderson encouraged Ted to pursue a professional career in the performing arts, beginning at The Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago. Mr. Levy made his Broadway debut in the smash hit Black & Blue, then collaborating with George C. Wolfe and Gregory Hines on the Choreography of Jelly's Last Jam, for which he received a Tony Nomination, Drama Desk Nomination and the Outer Critics Circle Award. Awarded an Emmy Award for his television debut performance in the PBS Special Precious Memories, he appeared in Spike Lee's Malcolm X for his film debut. His production of Ted Levy and Friends, directed by Gregory Hines, celebrated Ted as one of America's premier Tap Dance Artists. Influenced by Mr. Hines, Ted acquired his directorial debut as Director of Savion Glover's, Dancing Under The Stars at the New York Shakespeare Festival's Delacorte Theater. He also assisted in the choreography of Broadway's Tony Award winning hit Bring In 'Da Noise! Bring In 'Da Funk! Ted appeared in the movie Bojangles with Gregory Hines. He returned to Broadway as Papa Jack in Susan Stroman & Harry Connick Jr.'s Thou Shalt Not. Ted portrayed the role of The Mikado in The Ford Theater's production of The Hot Mikado, for which he won a Helen Hayes Award, the Old Globe, Leslie Bricusse production of Sammy, based on the musical life of Sammy Davis Jr., Martha Vinyard’s salute to the Tukeegee Airman entitled Fly. The LePetit Theatre production of Jelly’s Last Jam in the role of Jelly Roll Morton afforded Ted two 2018 Big Easy Award nominations for Best Choreography & Best Leading Actor In A Musical.
