ROUNDABOUT THEATRE COMPANY Announces 2018-19 DIRECTING FELLOW KATHLEEN CAPDESUNER

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director/CEO) is thrilled to announce the newest addition to the artistic team: Directing Fellow Kathleen Capdesuner. Capdesuner is the third Roundabout Directing Fellow; this season she is assisting Daniel Aukin (Apologia), James Macdonald (True West) and Margot Bordelon (Something Clean), working with the theatre's artistic team as a script reader, and using Roundabout's resources to develop her own projects.

The Roundabout Directing Fellowship was launched in 2017 to create a long-term, meaningful relationship between Roundabout and a young director. Spearheaded by Associate Artist Sam Gold, the Fellowship is intended to add diversity behind the scenes and ensure an artistic home for an early-career director.

Kathleen Capdesuner’s directing credits include: SHAME (co-creator, world premiere at Orlando and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals), The Struggle is Real (Orlando Fringe Critic’s Pick, BWW Best World Premiere Nomination), and Constellations (Fred Stone Theatre Award). Kathleen directed Detroit (Rollins College Theatre Memorial Award) and helmed a series of community engagement events in collaboration with the playwright, Lisa D’Amour. As the McCarter Theatre Center Directing/Artistic Engagement Intern, Kathleen directed and curated the inaugural New Voices Aloud: Young Playwrights Festival. She also assisted Randy Johnson (A Night With Janis Joplin), Adam Immerwhar (A Christmas Carol), Patricia McGregor (Protect The Beautiful Place), and Emily Mann (Turning Off The Morning News, Christopher Durang world premiere). Kathleen is a first-generation Cuban-American from Kissimmee, Florida and committed to making equitable change in this industry.

Through the New Play Initiative, Roundabout proves its devotion to the development and production of new works by significant writers and artists. The Roundabout Underground program in particular, provides substantial artistic and financial resources to emerging playwrights to stage their debut productions in New York and on Roundabout’s stages. In addition to producing their first play, writers receive a commission for a future play, showing a level of commitment to writers’ careers and the future of theatre in New York that is unparalleled. The New Play Initiative has discovered and brought audiences some of the most important new voices in theatre and is dedicated to creating a diverse canon for the future of theatre. Roundabout kicks off its 2018-19 Broadway season with Bernhardt/Hamlet, a new play by Theresa Rebeck, directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel, starring Janet McTeer, Dylan Baker & Jason Butler Harner; True West by Sam Shepard, directed by James Macdonald, starring Ethan Hawke and Paul Dano; Kiss Me, Kate, directed by Scott Ellis, starring Kelli O’Hara and Will Chase and Arthur Miller’s All My Sons starring Annette Bening and Tracy Letts, directed by Gregory Mosher.

Off-Broadway in 2018-2019, Roundabout’s season includes Apologia by Alexi Kaye Campbell, directed by Daniel Aukin, with Stockard Channing; Merrily We Roll Along by Stephen Sondheim and George Furth, directed by Noah Brody in a Fiasco Theater production; Toni Stone by Lydia R. Diamond, directed by Pam MacKinnon, with Uzo Aduba; and Usual Girls by Ming Peiffer, directed by Tyne Rafaeli and Something Clean by Selina Fillinger, directed by Margot Bordelon at Roundabout Underground.
